Guatemala
is a country located in Central America, right below Mexico. It is officially called The Republic
of Guatemala. The main
language used in Guatemala is Spanish.
Two of its borders are the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean (see the
map above). The capitol is called
Guatemala City and is the biggest city in the region. Almost half of the people who live in Guatemala live in this
city! The land of Guatemala ranges
from low, tropical regions to very high mountains (up to 13,000 feet!). The weather is usually very dry between
November and April. There is
little rainfall in the middle section of the country, and an abundance of rain
on the Caribbean shoreline. There
are extremely heavy tropical storms in September and October, which often cause
flooding.
