Iran is officially called the Islamic Republic
of Iran and it is located in Southwestern Asia. It is part of the
Middle East. There are also about 12 small islands that are considered
part of Iran. Most of the people in Iran speak Farsi (Persian) and
most of the population is very young. The capitol of Iran is the
city of Tehran. Iran has many resources, including petroleum and
natural gas and therefore is an important part of the modern world trade
system.
The climate of Iran changes from place to
place. In some areas it is humid, almost like a jungle, and in others
it is like a desert. The fact that Iran is located near mountain
ranges and deserts has a big effect on the climate. It rains the
most during the winter season. Iran also has a volcanic mountain
range. Volcanoes shoot out ash and gas frequently. There are
also very strong earthquakes that occur regularly.
